NFL's new year. The deal clears $1,514,418 million for Green Bay, with the Packers incurring $1,004,223 million in dead money on the cap as a result of the trade.
After making the move to get him from the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland then made a decision to strengthen their defensive backfield by acquiring Green Bay Packers defensive back Damarious Randall in exchange for quarterback DeShone Kizer, which was reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
DeShone Kizer was a second round pick for the Browns and started 15 games last season. He also rushed for 419 yards and five touchdowns, but lost six fumbles.
The Browns took the Packers to overtime in their meeting, and Kizer's potentially game-winning touchdown throw was foiled when linebacker Clay Matthews hit his arm as he was about to throw.
However, Kizer rarely looked comfortable in the pocket, partly because teams were constantly blitzing him, and he was sacked 38 times. Expect Kizer to compete with Brett Hundley for the backup gig behind Aaron Rodgers this offseason.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Cleveland will be sending the 65th overall pick to Buffalo.
Jackson fully expected Kizer to struggle in his first year and those fears played out week after week.
The Notre Dame product had a rough rookie season, as he found himself in and out of the lineup in what would be just the second 0-16 season in National Football League history.
Kizer was stung by the demotion, but he regained Jackson's trust and won over his teammates by showing toughness and grit while trying to stop the Browns from joining the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only teams to go 0-16. He vowed to improve and come back a better player and person.
