In October 2016, Mayor Barry's Chief Operating Officer, Rich Riebeling, chose to remove authority for approval of Forrest's travel requests with the mayor from Metro Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson and gave that approval authority to Mayor Barry's Chief of Staff Debbie Mason without informing Chief Anderson of the decision. The Bureau found nude photos of a woman on Forrest's phone, though they did not say whether the woman in question was Barry.
Calls for Barry to resign have been popping up in yard signs around town in recent weeks, amid charges that the mayor's affair reveals poor judgment and possible conflicts of interest. Two of his emails each contained one photo that showed a partially nude or fully naked woman, court documents say.
Barry and Forrest attended 10 city-funded trips by themselves without other mayor's office staff present, including to conferences overseas in Paris and Greece and the two to Washington cited in the affidavit.
A favorite of Nashville progressives, Barry overcame a sizable fundraising advantage against six opponents to make the mayoral runoff in September 2015, where she defeated Fox.
