Prince's doctor agrees to $30K settlement for drug violations

Prince had been addicted to pain medication for years and was dealing with it privately, according to Metz.

In the Thursday news conference, Metz said the pills Prince took were counterfeit Vicodin pills - a legal drug that's a mix of hydrocodone and acetaminophen - that actually contained fentanyl.

Andrus says the announcement was "devastating". The autopsy report says Prince administered the drug himself.

Andrus wore a purple sweater and has a tattoo of Prince's love symbol. "Prince's death was a tragedy that few could experience more deeply than Kirk Johnson". Federal authorities said earlier Thursday that the doctor had agreed to pay a civil penalty to resolve the case. He received treatment for an overdose of Percocet, which contains Oxycodone. Schulenberg is not the target of a criminal investigation.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks - who was close friends with Prince - hinted a year ago that the "Little Red Corvette" hitmaker may have "purposefully" overdosed. Investigators questioned Schulenberg and searched a hospital where he worked during the investigation but a letter from the U.S. Attorney sent to his lawyer, Amy Conners, dated April 16, 2018 cleared Schulenberg from any criminal charges. The office said it wouldn't comment further.

PRINCE DIDN'T HAVE ANY PRESCRIPTIONS: According to the court documents, Prince didn't have a prescription for any of the drugs found at Paisley Park.

Prince died on April 21, 2016 at age 57 - stunning fans and bandmates who recall the singer as an outward model of health who rarely drank alcohol, ate a vegetarian diet and would kick out musicians who abused drugs from his studio.

"There is no evidence the pills that killed Prince were prescribed by a doctor". Shortly after his death, it was confirmed that he died from an opioid overdose. But that pain medication wasn't what killed Prince. "However, we have no direct evidence a specific person provided the Fentanyl to Prince", Metz explained.

Twins Stadium, home of the Minnesota Twins, recently began selling Prince-branded merchandise such as baseball caps.

Oxycodone, the generic name for the active ingredient in OxyContin, was not listed as a cause of Prince's death.

April 20 - Prince is seen by Schulenberg again. A number of them were stamped with the same code as Vicodin but tested positive for Fentanyl. Metz said Prince had no prescription for fentanyl or Vicodin. He wrote the prescription in the name of Kirk Johnson, a longtime friend and associate of Prince's. Now, Minnesota prosecutors are ready to release an official statement.

April 20 - Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a California addiction specialist, is asked by Prince representatives to help the star. No one will be criminally charged.

Authorities alleged Schulenberg, a family physician who saw Prince twice before he died, illegally prescribed an opioid to Prince in violation of the Controlled Substances Act. The doctor admitted no facts or liability in the settlement, which includes stricter monitoring of his prescribing practices.

A two-year probe into the overdose death of music superstar Prince is reaching a critical stage as a county prosecutor reveals whether criminal charges will be filed.
