The Simona Halep vs Sloane Stephens French Open women's singles final will be streamed live on Hotstar.
Halep came back from a set down to beat Stephens 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to end her poor run in Grand Slam tournaments and justify her status as world number one.
Another player supremely loved and respected on tour, Petra Kvitova, congratulated Halep on joining the Grand Slam club. It looks good on you. "There's no one I'd rather lose to than the No.1 in the world so congratulations to you and your team".
"Show the world your trophy", Stephens said when asked what she had told the victor. She had to grind for every point and I thought Sloane, you could see late in the second set, getting a little bit exhausted.
The Romanian had lost all three of her previous Grand Slam finals, including last year's Roland Garros showpiece. On Saturday, Sloane Stephens and Simona Halep will compete for the women's title.
"I was dreaming of this moment since I started playing tennis and I'm happy it happened at Roland Garros".
However, even after she fell behind by a break in the second set, it did not appear that any doubt had crept into her mind.
If Theim is going to earn the French Open title, he would be well-advised to win the first set.
But just as the set was slipping away from Stephens, a series of unforced errors by Halep gifted the break back for 4-4. She's hitting her stride, and though it's come later than many thought, Stephens' prime might be now.
She reeled off nine straight points to lead 3-2 on serve, then broke for 4-2.
She boasts a 5-2 career lead over Stephens including both their meetings on clay. "I think winning here is very special for her and I'm glad she finally got her first Slam", said the American.
Halep, however, surrendered the advantage and it went to 4-4. The two traded games the remainder of the set, allowing Stephens to seal it on her serve in the 10th game. She capped off the fourth game with a wonderful victor at the net.
Halep leveled at 1-1 after coming out on top of a 25-shot rally but struggled to dictate from the baseline against her American rival, who moved confidently across the court and was excellent on the counterattack. She went from winning 77 percent of points on her first serve in the opening set to 43 percent in set two and 44 percent in the decider.
For that, she can call herself a first-time Grand Slam champion.
