The area contains a mix of vacation rental properties and year-round residences, The Associated Press reported.
County officials said in a news release that there is no access to Kapoho and Vacationland along Highway 132 or Highway 137 because of the lava flow.
The report of mounting damage followed a mandatory evacuation order issued Thursday night for a portion of the Leilani Estates subdivision in the midst of "vigorous lava eruptions" threatening homes, the Civil Defense said.

Kilauea, standing at 4,091 ft (1,247 metres) tall, has now been erupting for 34 days in a row, the longest since 1955.
Hawaii Civil Defense warned residents to avoid contact with the "laze" steam, which can contain hydrochloric acid and volcanic glass particles.
Scientists say lava from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has covered a total for 8 square miles (20 square kilometers).
A map shared by the US Geological Survey on Twitter Saturday afternoon showed the lava flow encroaching on the community of Kapoho and MacKenzie State Park.
With the threat of lava blocking planned the two highway escape routes, contractors have been bulldozing an alternative escape route through the adjacent Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. "Refusing to evacuate may put you, your family and first responders in danger".
