Nick Kyrgios believes Britain's Kyle Edmund can be a Wimbledon threat

"I played a lot of three-setters and a lot of tennis".

Just when Novak Djokovic looked set to position himself perfectly for another run at Wimbledon he let slip the chance of a first ATP Tour title in almost a year.

"It's special to play here and I've played great tennis throughout the week and it's great to have another shot at the title", the 2012 Queen's champion said.

Slowly, reminiscent of the Djokovic of old, the Serb began to tug the match back towards him, although his forehand lacked the penetration of his opponent.

But crucially, Cilic saved a match point at 4-5 in the second set, with a thunderous service victor setting the stage for a thrilling tie-break.

It was actually the second time this week that the BBC had issued a Nick Kyrgios-related apology, after the young gun swore several times toward the players box after missing a match point against rival Kyle Edmund several days ago. Credit to him for playing well.

Cilic arrived here with a proud record on the Queen's Club grass. "And obviously trying to get as many free points on my own serve [as I can]", Djokovic said.

"From 3-3 in the second, I started to hit better and a couple of big returns when I broke his serve, so that's when I kind of found my rhythm and the footing and to adjust". He had to scramble to save match point at 4-5 and, from that point on, grew in self-belief. He needed an ace to save break point in the eighth game, could do little about the angled forehand around the net that gave Cilic another chance and then dumped a tired forehand.

Cilic won six points in a row to force a third set.

Was this rare inefficiency the result of the 51-week drought since Djokovic's last title (which came at Eastbourne last year)?

Cilic, runner-up to Roger Federer at Wimbledon last year and this year's Australian Open, was relentless, however, and seized on a couple of Kyrgios groundstroke errors in the opening tiebreak to pocket the first set.

Like the world No 8 Kvitova, Rybarikova has fine grass-court pedigree, having reached last year's Wimbledon semi-finals, and it showed in the opener as she seized the advantage.

He then served it out to love to claim his second title at Queen's.

And despite being broken in the decider, Kvitova responded by breaking Rybarikova three more times to wrap up what ultimately proved to be a convincing win.
