For Matthews' funeral ceremony, his family decided not to go with the traditional casket route, instead opting to stage his body to depict his favorite setting - playing the basketball video game while having junk food and soda at his side. But just how big of a fan was the New Orleans teen of the Boston Celtics star?
The family of Renard Matthews wanted to remember him as he lived, honoring his memory in an unusual way at his wake.
Renard Matthews, 18, was tragically killed after being shot in the head during a robbery in New Orleans, Louisiana back on June 25.
The realistic tribute to Matthews also came with the teenager surrounded by some of his favorite snacks, including cereal, Doritos, zebra cakes, and a root beer.
Matthews will be buried Tuesday. His family put together a unique display, which quickly went viral, at the Sunday wake that commemorated the young man's life and love of the Celtics.
