lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said the president did not know beforehand about a 2016 meeting between his campaign and Russians, as the president's former attorney is reportedly ready to tell prosecutors.
"I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don jr", Trump wrote in on Twitter after a CNN report cited his longtime lawyer Michael Cohen as saying Trump had known about the meeting in advance.
Giuliani also conceded there would be something wrong on an "ethical, moral basis" if President Trump had misled the public by claiming he did not know in advance of a disputed June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Russian attorney.
The meeting has become a central focus of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into whether anyone within Trump's campaign colluded with Russia's meddling in the last U.S. presidential election.
Rudy Giuliani, one of the president's personal attorneys in the Russian Federation investigation, jumped on that when he began responding to the CNN report: Not only does Cohen not have anything to back up his story, and not only is he in a serious jam with federal investigators in New York City, but he also doesn't tell the truth about anything - he's the "liar in chief", as Giuliani told NPR.
"Businessmen listen to nearly everyone who might be helpful, and by the way, they make pragmatic decisions about how to make bad stories go away", Issa added.
"When you have Lanny Davis, a former Clinton operative who is very well experienced in PR crisis management, and now you're starting to see the dripping of information on behalf of Michael Cohen - adversarial now to President Trump - I think that this is just the opening salvo", Costello said.
"Colluding about Russians ― I'm not sure that's even a crime", Giuliani told CNN's Alisyn Camerota.
Cohen has not yet made a decision to work with the federal prosecutors from the Southern District of NY, according to two people familiar with his thinking but not authorized to discuss private conversations. The payment to Daniels, who says she had an intimate relationship with Trump, was meant to buy her silence over the affair.
In April, Trump said in a tweet that Cohen is "a fine person ... who I have always liked & respected".
On Sunday, the former White House communications director Anthony Scarmucci, who only served in office for 11 days, noted that President Trump and Cohen used to be "very loyal to each other", but added that things have drastically changed since the Federal Bureau of Investigation raids in April.
In a leaked recording of Cohen and Trump that emerged this week, Weisselberg is mentioned multiple times. Trump Jr.'s first statement after the initial report asserted the meeting was only about adoption.
Rudy Giuliani, the president's attorney, told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "Cuomo Prime Time" Thursday night that Cohen is a liar and has been lying for years.
"On the question of the attorney-client privilege that Giuliani is talking about, I don't know exactly what he's talking about, meaning, when it comes to the tape that we've heard about, apparently Giuliani has waived attorney-client privilege", Abrams said.

Cohen, whose business dealings are being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has longtime dealings in the taxi industry and owns several medallions for New York City yellow cabs that allow them to pick up passengers on the street. Giuliani says that he is now of the opinion that Michael Cohen has lied his whole life.
She noted that Giuliani called Cohen an "honest, honorable lawyer" on "This Week" in May. The meeting was also attended by Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law.
