The Trump administration is reportedly set to announce the closing of the Palestine Liberation Organization's office in Washington, D.C., in a bid to pressure the Palestinian leadership to participate in Middle East peace efforts.
The Trump administration dramatically ratchetted up its rhetoric by threatening sanctions if the court pursues investigations against the U.S., Israel or other allies.
The U.S. has announced it is ending its decades of funding for the United Nations agency that helps Palestinian refugees, slashing bilateral U.S. aid for projects in the West Bank and Gaza and cutting funding to hospitals in Jerusalem that serve Palestinians.
The move also comes as the US administration prepares to unveil a controversial Middle East peace plan known as the "Deal of the Century".
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has already rejected the plan, saying the U.S.is not an honest broker.
Alarmed by this trajectory, Americans for Peace Now (APN) calls on the few remaining responsible members of the Trump administration's foreign policy team and on Congress to act to reverse this disastrous trend and preserve any remaining chance for viable peace between Israel and its Palestinian neighbors.
Palestinian officials say the reason given for the closure was their stepped-up campaign at the ICC.
The PLO office in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment."The United States will always stand with our friend and ally, Israel", says Bolton's draft text.
"The United States supports a direct and robust peace process, and we will not allow the ICC, or any other organization, to constrain Israel's right to self-defense", he said in a speech to The Federalist Society, a conservative, Washington-based think tank. The accusations against USA personnel include torture and illegal imprisonment.
"The Palestinian Authority does not recognize Israel's right to exist and has no interest in peace".
It was an extraordinary rebuke decried by human rights groups who complained it was another Trump administration rollback of US leadership in demanding accountability for gross abuses.
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) said the PLO mission was only good at spreading hatred and incitement and made no effort to advance peace. Khan al-Ahmar is situated outside Jerusalem between two Israeli settlements.
According to reports, this decision is part of a widening USA pressure campaign on Palestinian officials amid stalled Middle East peace prospects and that the US National Security Advisor, John Bolton, is expected to announce the decision in several hours.
