new ad starring former National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The news, which was announced on September 3, led to an initial dip in Nike stock, but MarketWatch reports that the brand has rebounded with a 31% growth in online sales from September 2-4.
Film director Spike Lee on Friday called Nike's decision to feature Kaepernick "very courageous" in the face of relentless criticism by Trump over the NFL protests during the national anthem.
A source speaking on the condition of anonymity told the AP that Kaepernick watched the ad during an event at Nike's world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. "Because what non-believers fail to understand, is that calling a dream insane is not an insult".
"If I was in the NFL I would be kneeling still", said another resident Peyton Warren.
Setting aside the obvious smear that Kaepernick or any of the other players who've protested during the anthem to draw attention to police brutality and inequality "hate our country", Patrick has apparently been feeding at the same trough as Ted Cruz and the Texas Republican Party. And so, I've spent a lot of time over the previous year having forums, having debates, discussing what people - really civil debates with people - and at this point, there's just some people that you can't convince. "It's sad", Williams said of Kaepernick on Tuesday.
Social media chatter about Nike has also skyrocketed since the campaign began. In November, James had invoked Martin Luther King Jr.in saying of the "blackballed" ex-quarterback, "I've commended Kap, and for him to sacrifice everything for the greater good for everyone, for what he truly believed in, the utmost respect to him".
Some people took issue with the Kaepernick's prominence and message, destroying their Nike-logoed belongings in videos and photos posted to social media. "They came out with a campaign that they feel is who they are". And a store in Colorado has said it will be removing all Nike merchandise following the move.
On Wednesday, The New York Times published an op-ed from an anonymous "senior official" in the Trump administration titled "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration".
